The gouache painting workshop organized by major media outlets and Yijia Media as part of the "Clouds Embrace Bright Moon; Boundless Artistic Sea — A Dialogue Between Pioneer Taiwanese Artist Chen Jin and Contemporary Women" event was held on the 29th at Taipei's 798 Gallery. Renowned and highly respected gouache painting instructor Tiffany Chen served as the keynote speaker, with several students from the National Taiwan University of Arts' Calligraphy and Painting Department attending to listen and engage in creative exchanges. The event was lively and full of discussion, demonstrating high regard for the development of gouache painting creation and enthusiastically echoing the positive significance highlighted by this gouache painting special exhibition, attracting considerable attention from the industry.
Tiffany Chen discussed everything from the unique characteristics of gouache pigments to gouache painting creation techniques, conducting in-depth explorations of the development history and stylistic transformations of gouache painting from traditional to contemporary periods. She brought works from different periods of her career for demonstration, explaining one by one the artistic qualities revealed by gouache painting as spatial and temporal environments change, and how new meanings have been infused into traditional gouache painting styles through the advancement of contemporary trends — the primary reason gouache painting stands unique among multiple creative fields.
Students from the National Taiwan University of Arts' Calligraphy and Painting Department, including Chen Hao, Wang Yihan, Cai Yuyan, and Luo Shangyu — who also have experience in gouache painting group exhibitions — brought their own gouache creations to seek guidance from Tiffany Chen, engaging in extensive exchanges between traditional and modern painting styles. The students introduced their techniques in gouache creation and the brushwork experiments they intended to pursue, expressing great admiration for Chen's ability to employ different materials and expressive artistic conceptions. They found it a rare experience to exchange different viewpoints on creative elements that might be drawn from across different generations.
From the classification and refinement of pigments, using innovative subjects to describe the transformative opportunities of artistic trends, employing generational distinctions to explain the history and evolution of gouache painting, and citing practical gouache works to provide future market transformation opportunities — the transmission of gouache painting now sees even greater opportunity and developmental benefits.
This gouache painting teacher-student dialogue and the attention surrounding the special exhibition made the workshop, under Tiffany Chen's carefully designed curriculum and the students' focused learning, all the more attractive. High expectations were expressed for the upcoming gouache painting special exhibition to be held on July 23rd at the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall's Deming Gallery, organized by major media outlets and Yijia Media. The venue was provided by Taipei 798 Gallery Chairman Chen Biyu, and several calligraphy and painting teachers also arrived to engage in gouache painting exchanges, adding positive significance to the workshop program.
